The Ultimate Dreamer
I could not think of a single better day of the year to write about dreams than the day we honor a man who sacrificed so much and inspired so many. The life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. speaks to me in ways now that it had not previously done when I was younger. As I embrace this season of my life where I am completely entranced by my own dreams and all that I hope to accomplish, Dr. King's words and works constantly serve as a motivating factor.
One of the most essential things I've learned about faith in the past few years is that it does not work in the presence of doubt. Letting go is quite possibly one of the hardest concepts humans attempt to grasp. I have learned that my conversations with God cannot be contradictory. To one day say, "God, I trust that you will make a way," then spend the remainder of the week wondering when, where, and how that way will be made negates my previous declaration of trust. There are times when there aren't more than two steps visible in relation to Dr. King's analogy. It is the attempt to place one's foot on that next, unseen step that exhibits true faith.
So that's where I'm finding myself now! Stepping out on faith and chasing dreams.
Yesterday, I had the privilege of attending a vision board party hosted by Bry-Anne Jones, founder of the organization Live. Move. Be! (follow her on IG @livemoveb). While this wasn't my first time creating a vision board, it was my first time doing so in a group setting. By the end of the night my heart was all filled up and overflowing with love, support, inspiration, and motivation. Being surrounded by a group of women with positive, faith-based goals ranging from completing degrees, to raising families, to writing books, to traveling the world, and more, heavily impacted my soul. My mind was blown, and I left feeling like each woman there could do everything she listed on her creatively crafted board. Here's a glimpse at my work in progress:
I divided my board into four sections. The top, right corner is my faith corner. I'm determined to see 2016 be a year where God continues to blow my mind...I want to be in a constant state of "Whoa!". The bottom right corner is my professional/career corner. I would love to go back to school in the near future, and while it is too tiny for you to see in this pic, there's a quote in the conversation bubble that says "...arguably one of the best African American authors...". I'm just saying...DREAM BIG! The bottom left is my lifestyle corner where I'd like to travel, relax, and decorate my new home (after saying this someone in the room whom I never met before blessed my life with a Pier 1 gift card!!!). Lastly, the top left corner is my affirmations section. I found the word "glowing" and I just had to use it. A few weeks ago, a friend whispered "Who is he?" to me. "You're glowing," she said. Well, there is no "he", but I am happy about where my life is and the amazing things that are to come. Perhaps that's the source of the glow!
I'm hoping to see that light continue to shine in me, and in the people I'm connected to. As Dr. King said, "If you can't fly, then run, if you can't run, then walk, if you can't walk, then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward."
Press on, dreamers!
